India’s Poor Offered Smartphones And Other Freebies For Votes

Rival political parties in India are vying to outdo each other in distributing assorted freebies to voters in elections in five states across the country. These vary from providing free rice, cooking oil, kitchen utensils, school bags, saris and bicycles to giving voters mobile telephones, tablets and laptops and internet connections.
